Kentucky fans had a lot to look forward to at the first home game of the season this past weekend.
Commonwealth Stadium has new video and ribbon boards for a much improved fan experience.
I liked the new video boards in the end zones, as they were really clear and large enough for everyone to see from the opposite end.
The ribbon boards I have a problem with.
From what I could tell, Kroger, KCTCS, and McDonald’s received the most gain from the new ribbon boards that stretched around the entire stadium because 80% of the time that is what I saw when I looked at them.
I figured there would be an updated SEC scoreboard or something that fans want to see.
Now, I am not stupid enough to think that sponsors are not part of the game, but I just think the percentage of time they received was a little extravagant.
I liked when the Cats got a first down or touchdown and the ribbon boards had animation around the entire stadium, and I have also heard that they will look a lot better at night. I guess we will see this Saturday vs. the Cards.
Also, if everyone didn’t know the score of the Men’s and Women’s Soccer game they surely wasn’t paying attention. The two video boards around the 15 yard line seem to have the scores posted there the entire game.
As a SEC football fan I would expect one scoreboard to be constantly updating what is going on in the league. Am I wrong to think that?
There were smaller video boards below the larger screens that showed national scores periodically, but it was so far away I really didn’t notice it until around the 3rd quarter.
Anyway, I think the boards are an improvement, and I have included some pics to get you an idea of what they look like if you were one of the 12,000 no shows this past weekend.
