Hunter Bowles and his Glasgow High School team has been demolishing all the competition thus far in the early season, as they are currently 4-0. In three out of the four games, Glasgow has defeated teams by 50-plus points. The defensive has yet to give up any points, too.
With his team’s dominant performances so far, it looks like Kentucky and Joker Phillips are taking notice of the tight-end’s impressive season. This weekend, Bowles received a call from Phillips.
“Coach [Joker] Phillips called and he said Kentucky wanted to offer me a scholarship,” he said with excitement.
The offer is number two for Bowles, as he received his first from Marshall earlier in August. Murray State has also offered a roster spot.
“It feels really good to get the [Kentucky] offer. I grew up being a fan, and everyone is really excited about the offer,” Bowles explained. “I’m not going to commit or anything right now; I want to see what all the other schools do before I make a decision.”
Bowles has also heard from Louisville, Tennessee, and Western Kentucky to go along with UK, Marshall, and Murray State.
Kentucky has a surplus of tight-ends on the roster right now, but Phillips said he had a good solution for Bowles to receive playing time if he comes to Lexington.
“Coach Phillips told me he wants me to red-shirt or gray-shirt to get a year separation from all the other players at my position.”
“I wouldn’t mind being red-shirted or gray-shirted. I would love to get that separation from the others.”
Instead of focusing on his recruitment right now, Bowles is more focused on a state championship. With Glasgow looking liking a perennial favorite to win a championship, don’t expect a decision to be made for awhile by Bowles.
However, it looks like the Cats are sitting really well right now with the state of KEntucky’s best tight-end.
