Last season, Memphis had a relatively low seed in the NCAA Tournament for their usual selves, but the only thing that can be put on that is the poor schedule they had.
However, Josh Pastner is looking to beef up the schedule this season, as Memphis will take on Georgetown and Xavier, as well as participating in the Maui Invitational.
Pastner is looking to continue to bolster his schedule, and he doesn’t count on challenging his mentor, John Calipari to a duel. Here is an excerpt from an article discussing the scheduling:
Oh, and Pastner said that in his efforts to upgrade the Tigers’ schedule, he hopes fairly soon to be able to match his team against that of a certain coach now plying his trade at the University of Kentucky.
I don’t think Cal would be too fond of playing at Memphis, but I could easily see both parties making a decision to play at a neutral court.
Either way, it should be an interesting thing to look forward to in the future.
