Mark Pope met with the media following Kentucky’s 74-71 win over Tennessee last night with the 1996 Cats by his side.
“All right, first, congratulations to Tennessee, man, what a game, what a game,” Pope said in his opening statement. “I’m just happy for them. It was a great college basketball game, man. It was elite level talent on the floor. Making big-time plays. Two teams really fighting it out.”
Pope talked about what it was like to get such a big win with his former teammates in Rupp Arena.
“It means that our group text is not going to be quite so vile,” Pope joked, “This is not about me, it’s actually not about us, it’s about the guys that played. On a very personal level, it means a lot. I love these guys so much.”
