The Kentucky women’s soccer team got a 55th minute equalizer from senior Thalia Morisi to earn a 1-1 draw at Florida on Thursday.
With the result, the Wildcats are 9-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Southeastern Conference.
Here is a game recap from UK Athletics:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Thanks to a 55th minute equalizer from senior Thalia Morisi, Kentucky (9-3-1, 3-1-1 SEC) escaped Gainesville with a 1-1 draw against Florida (4-5-3, 0-2-3 SEC). With the result, the Wildcats tied a match for the first time this season.
Kentucky and Florida have now played to a tie in each of the past four seasons. The Cats also earned a road point for the first time this season, improving their total in the Southeastern Conference table to 10.
Kentucky raced out of the gates, with Tanner Strickland nearly scoring in the first minute as her shot bounced off the crossbar. However, the Gators would soon settle into the match and take the lead on a goal from Addy Hess in the 18th minute. Megan Hinnenkamp received a ball from Kai Tsakiris, dribbled into the box, and played a cross into a charging Hess, who headed the ball into goal.
The Gators would suffocate the Wildcats for the remainder of the half and take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
The Wildcats were able to respond out of the break, with Morisi’s first career goal in SEC play—and third of the season—bringing the match to its eventual resting place. Alexis Tylenda found the ball on the near wing and turned towards goal, laying off a cross to Morisi at the far post. The Massapequa Park, N.Y. native jumped over her defender and headed the ball into the ground, where it would bounce into the goal.
Kentucky would eventually control the majority of possession in the match for the 12th time in 13 matches and also place more shots on frame than Florida, but neither side was able to find a second goal and the match closed in a draw.
The Wildcats will close out the week with the team’s fifth ranked opponent in its last seven matches, returning home to host No. 24 Vanderbilt on Sunday, October 5 at 1 p.m. ET. Admission to all 2025 Kentucky Soccer regular season home matches will be free to the public.
