It wasn’t exactly a thing of beauty, but Kentucky football is 1-0 after holding off a feisty Toledo team 24-16 on Saturday.
Running back Dante Dowdell led the way for Kentucky with 14 carries for 129 yards and a touchdown. Backfield running mate Seth McGowan finished with 18 rushes for 78 yards and a score.
The Wildcats looked good on the ground and showed a lot of promise defensively, but the passing game was a different story.
Quarterback Zach Calzada was just 10-for-23 through the air for 85 yards, 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. Some fans are already calling for backup Cutter Boley.
Despite concerns, the Cats are off to a 1-0 start, which is ultimately all the matters. Business will surely pick up next week though when Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss come to town.
Kiffin will have revenge in mind after last season’s stunning loss to the Wildcats in Oxford.
