If you watched the Boys Sweet 16 matchup of Bullitt East High School and Louisville Trinity you might be surprised who has won the Lexington Herald-Leader Player of the Year award.
Kentucky 2013 commit Derek Willis wins it over Trinity’s Nathan Dieudonne.

[COLOR=#333333][FONT=Arial]It was a big year for Bullitt East’s 6-foot-9 junior. He committed to Kentucky and led the Chargers to a second consecutive 6th Region title.[/FONT][/COLOR]

Willis showed off his versatility, averaging 17.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.2 blocks and 2.1 assists. He had 20 double-doubles (points and rebounds). He shot 56 percent from the field and 77 percent from the foul line.[/FONT][/COLOR]

Willis will be a strong favorite to win Mr. Basketball honors next season.
