In light of his new found career as a college basketball expert, Charles Barkley did an interview with the guys at Rush the Court. they touched on alot of the hot button topics in the NCAA, among them Anthony Davis and UK.
[COLOR=#444444][FONT=Verdana][I][B]RTC:[/B] …Is there one guy out there that you see can just carry a team deep because of that — what you know and can see that someone like me wouldn’t know or see?[/I][/FONT][/COLOR][COLOR=#444444][FONT=Verdana][B]CB:[/B] I actually think we’re missing the boat on the kid at Kentucky, the big [B][Anthony] Davis[/B] kid. Because man he is special. He is very special. You know, people say that team plays great defense. They can only play great defense because he’s back there. He’s [B]Bill Russell[/B]. I tell people, he reminds me of a young[B]Patrick Ewing[/B] — remember those old Georgetown teams that played defense? That’s what Kentucky does. They force everything to him. But they can only do that because he’s back there. He’s leading the country in blocks obviously, but man, those perimeter guys play great defense too, but they can only do it because he’s back there. He blocks everything that gets back there to him. The thing is, he’s never really in foul trouble either.
[I][B]RTC:[/B] Let me ask you about one possible weekend matchup — [B]Connecticut[/B] and Kentucky. You’ve got unbelievable talent on UConn but they haven’t really meshed. Do you think [B]Jim Calhoun[/B] could get them together for one game to beat Kentucky?[/I]
[B]CB:[/B] No. I think they’ve been so disjointed all season they won’t be able to turn it on. Because I don’t think they have a Kemba Walker-type player who can bring it together.
[I][B]RTC:[/B] I know we have to go, Charles, and I do appreciate your time. To close out, before we go, can I get your Final Four teams and maybe a dark horse?[/I]
[B]CB:[/B] OK. Let me look at my notes here. I had [B]North Carolina, Kentucky, Syracuse[/B], which now I’m not sure about, and [B]Missouri[/B].
I have to say, maybe it was Charles going at it with Rick Pitino, maybe its the fact that he has that charming southern drawl, but I’m not mad at Mr. ‘I’m not a role model’. He does a better job than Parrish and Goodman.
