According to Jack Anderson of CelticsBlog.com, former Kentucky big man Amari Williams was one of the four winners from the summer for the Boston Celtics.
Williams, the 46th pick in the NBA Draft, averaged 6.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists. His stats don’t jump off the page, but his passing ability opened plenty of eyes in Boston.
Here is an excerpt:
Amari Williams
The 46th pick in this year’s draft played in 4 out of the 5 games, averaging 6.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. The counting stats may not say it, but Williams’ passing really jump off the screen when watching him play.
You can see he has really good feel for the game. This skip pass was one in particular that jumped out at me, but it was his ability to hit cutters that stood out the most.
He needs to finish better around the cup, shooting just 44.5%, which for a big man who doesn’t shoot threes is not very good and his rim protection has some developing to do. However, you can see Williams’ pathway to being a good NBA player through his vision.
