Have you sat around all day scouring the internet, twitter and facebook looking for the latest update on the Enes Kanter situation? You’re not alone, I have too. In fact, it could have a negative impact on the number of gifts under the tree this year. It wasn’t all for nothing, we did get some information from UK and the NCAA which I find interesting. First, let’s give you the statement again:[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
“When a school receives new information that could impact a student-athlete’s eligibility, it is a standard NCAA process to provide the university with an opportunity to resubmit the case for consideration.
“Because an NCAA appellate body, such as the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement, cannot hear new information on appeal, this reconsideration must first be made by the NCAA reinstatement staff. The university would then have an opportunity to appeal the staff decision to the committee.
“This opportunity is available to ensure a fair and thorough consideration of eligibility matters for the student-athlete. The NCAA and University of Kentucky will not have any further comment regarding the specifics of this case until the process has concluded.”
So what could the new information be that hasn’t already been presented? It’s quite simple as many folks are already reporting. Kentucky has taken the case out of the hands of the appeals committee, for not at least, and is offering up new evidence which will be reviewed by NCAA staff. That new evidence would be based on a recent ruling on Cam Newton. Simply, if Newton is eligible because he wasn’t aware, then Enes is because he wasn’t aware either.
It has been widely thought that Enes had a chance due to the recent ruling for Josh Selby. Now it seems as if UK might be trying to tap into another recent ruling to gain an upper hand with the NCAA.
It is not known exactly what the “new information” Kentucky submitted is. It is not known when we’ll hear anything, although it is now thought to be next week. It is not known if Enes will be freed. The only thing we do know is he won’t be playing with the Wildcats in North Carolina tomorrow and that has to be the focus on UK and Big Blue Nation.
GO CATS!
