UK Target Archie Goodwin Apparently Likes Blue

If you haven’t been paying attention over the weekend, UK target Archie Goodwin made headlines on why he cuts certain schools from his list. Some where conventional, Texas got the boot because Goodwin felt he didn’t have a good connection with coach Barnes. Others got the boot for different reasons, supposedly Baylor was cut from the list due to their colors and Adidas affiliation.

Still from talking to Archie it is hard to believe that he would say something like that, at least on record. A bright kid who has a high ceiling, Goodwin is currently down to UConn, Kansas, Memphis, Kentucky and his hometown Arkansas Razorbacks. Possibly the best player to come from the state since NBA star Joe Johnson, the expectations for Goodwin are remarkably high.

UConn has already landed a shooting guard in Omar Calhoun and at the very least Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright will still be on the team even if Lamb leaves for the NBA, so the backcourt might be a little too crowded there. Kansas needs some serious help and adding Goodwin to complement current freshman Ben Mclemore could go a long way. Memphis has Will Barton and Joe Jackson, both guys could be off to the NBA after this year so Archie could star in the backcourt. Kentucky will most likely lose Marquis Teague, and possibly Doron Lamb this year, and Calipari already knows how to use his wealth of talents. Arkansas is interesting because there is obvious pressure on Arkansas to keep him in-state. The Razorbacks already have a talented group of freshmen coming in tis year, and if Mike Anderson can get Archie and Jarnell Stokes to join the fray they will be a player in the SEC for the next few years.

Still, many say that Kentucky could be the team battling Arkansas for Goodwin at the end. If that’s the case I like coach Cal’s chances of landing the talented Shooting Guard.
