With the Indiana game approaching this Saturday, I figured it’s a good time to comprise the list of the most awful, annoying, crazy and crudest fanbases. There are many factors that can cause your team’s fans to be eligible. [B]Factor #1 is lack of humanity[/B]. Any fanbase that attacks a person’s spirit, personality or intelligence will all but cement their spot on this prestigious list. [B]Factor #2 is audacity to do things in the sports realm you would never do anywhere else[/B]. Just because it’s a basketball game doesn’t mean you can threaten my point guard’s life. [B]Factor #3 is annoyance[/B]. Simply put, if you bug me you’re in.
[I]Disclaimer: I realize not all of the fans of these teams are like this, if you choose to exclude yourself from these descriptions then good for you.[/I]
#5 The Vanderbilt Commodores. I know it seems like I put the ‘dores on every list that’s a gateway for some side swiping insults, you know..because I do. These guys truly irritate me because they don’t care about any basketball game, except one….when UK comes to town. Then they paint their chest, sing nerd songs and do homework in the stands at halftime. If they ever cheered like that for their team the other 31 games per year they might win an NCAA tourney game…I’m just kidding, that’s crazy talk.
#4 South Carolina Gamecocks. If you think for one second you can play “Sandstorm” by Darude at EVERY FREAKING GAME and not be terrible, think again. You want to Rave? Then go back to 1998 when it was cool to do so. We are trying to play some basketball here if you don’t mind…well at least OUR team is. Bang on your drum all day, Sweet Caroline, and even Rocky Top is better than that Sandstorm crap. I’m trying to help you here.

#3 Florida Gators. Florida basketball fans are as terrible as it gets. No one shows up to their basketball games—well, “no one” may be a little harsh. Florida ranked nationally 42[SUP]nd[/SUP] in basketball attendance with 10, 186 per home game. Which perennial powerhouses averaged more than Florida in attendance last year? BYU, New Mexico, Creighton, San Diego St. and Iowa of course. What a waste of 2 national championships.
I also heard a story where visiting media are treated like dogs. Said media was standing up late in the ball game trying to see over the cheerleaders so they could cover the game. The Florida fans, instead of standing so they could see, screamed at the visiting media and told them to sit down. It got to the point where they physically laid hands on them to try and get them to sit down. The whole ordeal ended with crap being thrown at them from the stands. Security was alerted, but they must’ve gone to Florida because they were clueless and/or didn’t care about anything.
#2 Mississippi State Bulldogs. When UK beat them 2 years ago in Starksville, I thought someone was going to die. It was a highly contested game that was close at the end. UK, like all the previous tough games prevailed and found a way to win. Mississippi State fans didn’t approve so they threw debris onto the court causing a delay in play. Lest we forget about Demarcus getting harassed by the MSU students. He was called everything but a white boy for a full week before the game. This prompted the whole “call me” ordeal.
Let us pray that the next trip to Starksville doesn’t result in any shankings.
#1 Indiana Hoosiers. The other teams excelled in certain specific categories, but Indiana excels in all facets of the Worst Fanbase criteria. 4 years ago they chanted to Joe Crawford “Jordan’s better”. While this may have been true, it is completely uncalled for when Joe did nothing to deserve that. In that same game, as they were beating the living shiz out of UK, they also chanted “Tubby’s better”. While this too may be true, maybe you refrain from screaming it in unison with 15 thousand people on national TV. Chanting “S-A-T” while Demarcus Cousins is at the line is completely out of line and it doesn’t even make sense. Rose was the one accused of not taking his SAT, not Cousins. I wonder if half the people who chanted that got a lower score on their SAT than Boogie did.
They continually bring up Cal being a cheater or UK being on probation. Once again, know your place. IU was just sanctioned by the NCAA because Kelvin Sampson was caught cheating. Furthermore, Sampson was just caught cheating at Oklahoma prior to him being hired, yet they have the gall to act all high and mighty?
I’m concerned that they are going to chant some super mean things on Saturday. These are just 18 year old kids who don’t care about the 45 year old beer gut dude who hates UK as much as his own life. They will have to deal with grown men chanting “UNI-BROW, UNI-BROW” or “Cal’s a cheater (clap, clap, clap, clap, clap)”. They truly are the West Virginia to our Karen Sypher. UK may have many lower classmen, but IU has just as many lower class men.
