Pinky and the Pain; UK rolls UTC 87-62

There were 2 headlines going into Saturday night’s match up between the Cats and Mocs: Chris Early’s tweets from a month ago and Terrence Jones disappearing act at IU. Early on it didn’t look like Early being there or not would have stopped the UK onslaught. UK jumped out to a 16-2 lead and that was just at the end of the first TV timeout. All was not smooth sailing from there however.

Terrence Jones dislocated his pinky around the 15 minute mark and was never the same. Around the 8 minute mark Jones’ hand must have felt awful as he proceed to miss an alley oop dunk attempt, commit a foul from 90 feet away from the hoop and commit back to back turnovers. Cal wanted him to work through it to gain some confidence back, but Jones was in too much pain. Jones would be later diagnosed with a dislocated finger. Just as an FYI, since Jones’ 14 point 1[SUP]st[/SUP] half against UNC he has accumulated 4 points, 9 turnovers, 6 rebounds, and has gone 2-10 from the floor.

Doron Lamb and Anthony Davis were the stars of this game as lamb had 24 points and 6 rebounds while Davis had 14 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks. Lamb went 4-9 from 3 point range as he looked as zoned in as any player UK has had all year. Aside from the threes he hit a few mid-range jumpers as well as some baseline runners. Lamb is unquestionably UK’s best offensive option right now. Davis rebounded with complete authority throughout the entire game. With Jones having his issues, Davis will be asked to step up..or maybe not because it looks like he already has.

MKG also had a very nice game. He went for an impressive 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. On any other team in America, Kidd-Gilchrist would be getting national POY hype. But at Kentucky he’s simply #14 and silently killing teams. I love everything about his game.

Marquis Teague did a phenomenal job at the point. He tallied 11 points, 8 assists and only 1 turnover. The only knock on his game was he took too many outside jumpers only hitting 1 of 5 threes attempted. All said he was 5-13, I would like to see him take all of his shots around the rim.

Kyle Wiltjer came to play as he did his best honey badger impression by not giving a crap and firing up three ball after three ball. Kyle took 7 shots and they were all three point attempts. He connected on 3 of them to finish with 9 points. Darius Miller had another Miller type night going 4-9 from the field for 12 points.

UK extends its impressive home winning streak to 40 games and it doesn’t look to be in question until New year’s eve when Louisville comes to town. But for now if you happen to be wearing gasoline pants, don’t go near UK, because they are on fire.
