Louisville crossed the line…alot

Morgan Newton, assume the position.

We knew this would be ugly. We expected little to no offense, dropped passes and terrible blocking up front. Well we got all of the above. UK started off the game looking great. They marched down the field and after 3 straight goal line runs they settled for a field goal. Louisville
didn’t start off so hot as they punted on their first 2 possessions. UK once again moved the ball with ease. UK went 42 yards in 5 plays but it ended with LaRod king fumble as he tried to get a few more yards.

A few punts later Louisville did what we all expected them to do. They matriculated the ball up the field with a 72 yard drive capped off by a Will “Franken” Stein touchdown pass. UK responded with 3 straight punts totaling 38 non impressive yards. Will Stein got hurt when the “human construction dumpster” landed on him. I’m no doctor but it looked like he may have bruised his vagina. Teddy Bridge”over dirty Ohio River”water came in and played more than admirably. He completed a TD pass late in the 2nd quarter. UK scored a touchdown with an 80 yard drive in a little over 2 minutes. Perhaps their most impressive drive of the season.

UofL scored a field goal right out of the locker room as the UK defense didn’t appear to make any adjustments as they let the cards run all over them. UK amassed -9 yards in the entire 3rd quarter. With the start of the 4th Bridgewater continued to impress by passing for the game clenching touchdown.

The 4th qtr got interesting for the Cats. They scored on their first possession going 77 yards on 15 plays. That put the Wildcats within 7. They forced Louisville to punt and UK was looking to tie the score.

The Cats marched the ball all the way down to the 18 yard line and the game virtually ended when Newton’s final pass was uncatchable as it sailed out of bounds. Charlie Strong then proceeded to do some jumping for joy and the Cardinals beat the Wildcats after 5 years of football dominance.

The good for the cats: Kentucky converted for 21 first downs, 3 more than did Louisville. Morgan Newton threw for a career high in yardage (255 yards). UK’s receivers caught 27 passes. And Matt Roark never played on one offesive play.

The bad: UK’s O-line allowed 5 sacks for -41 yards. Morgan Newton ran the ball 13 times for -19 yards. UK rushed for 35 yards while allowing 181 yards on the defensive end.

I realize that UK looks terrible on offense, but if you can give Newton a little more time he may make a play or 2. If that doesn’t happen, the gameplan against UK will be blitz and pressure the QB on every play.

Every other excuse UK fans have, UofL had 10 more. They lost their starting quarterback early in the 2nd quarter and they are the 2nd youngest team in the FBS. Your hat has to go off to them, but damn that still sucked.
