In what seemed to be an incredibly boring game, Kentucky wins its Christmas Eve-eve-eve-eve-eve game against the Samford Bulldogs, coasting to an 82-50 win without the services of Terrence Jones. The Cats jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back.
Doron Lamb led the way tonight, finishing with 26 points on 8-12 shooting, including 4-6 from downtown and 6-7 from the line. He also added 6 rebounds.
Darius Miller managed 17 of his own, shooting 6-10, and 3-6 3FG. He also had 5 assists.
Kidd-Gilchrist and Teague finished with 10 and 14, respectively. MKG was limited in the first half with 2 early fouls and never really made an impression on the game. Teague did what he does, which is continue to improve on a nightly basis, although he did have 4 turnovers tonight to go with his 5 assists.
As a team, Kentucky shot 50% (31-62) overall and 43% (9-21) from outside. Team free throws were better as well (11-14 for 78%). Kentucky only turned the ball over 7 times, and outrebounded Samford 38-22.
Samford exposed a chink in the defensive armor of the Cats, using repeated backdoor lay-ups to shoot 44% on the night. They also turned the ball over 14 times.
Despite the score, Kentucky never really outplayed Samford. The biggest difference was on the boards, where the Cats’ size gave them an 18-4 advantage in second chance points. Add in the 6 extra made 3’s, and it starts to add up. Still, they got out to an early lead, and never let off the gas.
