Kentucky’s Offensive Line is just Plain Offensive

I remember not too long ago, oh lets say about 3 weeks ago, Joker Phillips was talking about the Kentucky offensive line like they could have blocked for Walter Payton. The O-line was going to be what made our offense good.

Three games later, Kentucky is 2-1 and most of the blame can go to it’s offensive line.

Yesterday, there were 14 tackles for loss which totaled 71 yards.

Morgan Newton was sacked 6 times.

Does this sound like the high point of a SEC offense?

Plain and simple, the offensive line is as over hyped as Sarah Palin running for president. It might sound like a good idea but after you start gathering some information you find out you are as screwed as Glenn Rice at the Great Alaskan Shootout.

Here is what Joker said yesterday about the offensive line after the beginning of the season’s downward spiral, “Well, I mean, when you run the ball for 35 yards, it’s not good enough, and we gave up six sacks. I’m not saying they were all on the offensive line, but still not good enough. So it would be crazy for me to sit here and say they played good enough to win.”

This team will not win games rushing for 35 yards as a team and an average of 1.1 yards per rush. Impossible. This coaching staff has set themselves for a lot of headaches blowing up the offensive line, and their overconfident attitude about them really makes you wonder if they can evaluate talent or not.

He went on to defend his over hyping the offensive line, “Well, we all said that. We did return four starters and a guy who had started some games, so we said ‑‑ it’s not just me, we all said that. It hasn’t happened. It has not happened. I don’t blame it on injuries and all those things, or I don’t blame it on having played together. We’ve just got to get better. We’ve got to get them better. We have got to get them better as a staff.”

Who cares who said it!! You said it Joker Phillips the head coach of the University of Kentucky.

I know Joker is not on the hot seat with the administration, but he definitely is with the fan base. A record of 3-9 is a definite possibility right now, and they would be overachieving if they win 1 SEC game this season.

Vanderbilt is 3-0, Mississippi State is definitely out of their league, and if you can’t beat Ole Miss in Commonwealth after Vandy destroyed them, basketball season will be in full swing a lot sooner than Joker would like.

I wonder how Rick Minter feels now since his 70,000 people in Rupp Arena remark, especially when there won’t be 70,000 in Commonwealth Stadium one time this entire season.
