Kentucky is Out of the Dez Wells Race

It looks like Dez Wells not committing while he was on campus the last couple of days signifies Kentucky is out of the running.

One of the key questions for Kentucky and Wells apparently stemmed from whether he’d be able to receive a waiver to play this season. I’ve been told by multiple sources it’s highly unlikely the NCAA will clear him for the 2012-13 campaign. The more concerning issue was that Wells needed to make a quick decision in order to enroll in classes in Lexington so — at worst case — he’d be able to play a year from now.

“He felt pressured to some degree,” said a source close to Wells. “And he wants to make sure he makes the right decision.”

I have been saying that if Wells wouldn’t be eligible this year, it would probably not be a good idea to sign him, especially considering the baggage(unwarranted or not) he would be bringing with with.

It looks like, at least until Christmas, Cal has his team.
