Jared Lorenzen’s Air Raid Overwhelms Drillers

This past week Jared Lorenzen has been treated by the mainstream media like a novelty act that is out of shape and overweight.

They forgot he can still pass the football.

Jared Lorenzen led the Northern Kentucky River Monsters to a 54-40 win with 7 touchdown passes against the Eastern Kentucky Drillers which has the UIFL’s #1 defense.

Lorenzen was 17-31 for 227 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing with 5 attempts for 14 yards, with one of those this 9 yard run for a score.

The Drillers offense wasn’t too shabby early on, but just couldn’t keep up with the UIFL’s #1 offense.

The Drillers were still without their starting quarterback, Eastern KY alum Al Holland, who is still out with a high ankle sprain.

Daniel Eidson filled in admirably, throwing 4 touchdowns on 11-22 passing for 184 yards.

Eidson also led the Drillers in rushing with 29 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The big story of this game came early in the 2nd half as Driller defensive back Marcus McClinton and Northern Kentucky Maurice Douse was ejected for supposedly throwing a punch. I spoke to several players after the game and no one saw anyone throw any punches.

There is definitely some hard feelings between McClinton and the River Monsters, with the focus being on Jared Lorenzen.

Lorenzen and McClinton both played at Kentucky, but you could tell there isn’t any love lost between the two, as they didn’t shake hands at the opening coin toss.

McClinton could be suspended and/or fined for the rematch next week in Pikeville, but if the League looks at the tape they might rescind anymore repercussions.

The win for the River Monsters, coupled with the Saginaw loss last night, has elevated them into the #1 seed and home field advantage in the UIFL playoffs.

The Drillers will have to travel to Saginaw in the first round no matter the outcome of next week’s game.

I spoke to David Jones and Jared Lorenzen about the game, the ejection of McClinton, and next week’s rematch.
