Inside the Boxscore

I love DVR. I really do. I couldn’t watch the entire UK game yesterday so I had to DVR the second half. Who really decides that a NCAA College Basketball game should only last 2 hours? So I would like to thank Anthony Jordan, Rick Hartzell, and Pat Adams for making the game a lot longer than it really should have and me missing the last 5 minutes of the game. Now lets look at the boxscore.

  • I will begin this post with the stat line that caught my eye first: DeAndre Liggins. 14 minutes, 2-3 from the field, 2-2 from the free throw line, 3 steals, 1 rebound and 6 points. Wow! Really? DeAndre Liggins? Gillispie really couldn’t coach a lick! Coach Cal is already thinking about starting the embattled guard and no one can argue if he did.
  • Darnell Dodson has yet to show me that he can do anything that helps this team on a consistent basis. 11 minutes and O points. ZERO. This guy could be a game changer but he just can’t hit a shot. 0-3.
  • Ramon Harris did his usual, he played defense. He got a whole lot less minutes(10) compared to last game(23), but his minutes will fluctuate more than any Cat. Harris’ play will depend on the type of the game that is being played and the general “pace of the contest.”
  • As a team, 22-33 from the free throw line is decent. With the way we can put points on the board, I will take it anytime we are over 65% from the stripe. I would prefer 70%.
  • Darius seemed more active in the 1st half(when I got to watch), and his minutes increased because of it. He needs to hit more shots, especially the 3 from the wing. You will see Dodson’s minutes disappear completely if Miller can be more consistent offensively. I just wish Miller would shoot more than 1 shot from beyond the arc.
  • From all the text messages that I received throughout the evening, the officiating was bad. Anthony Wireman from www.allkyhoops.com said, “This is the worst officiating crew I’ve ever seen in a high-major D1 game; they suck. This is why I blame the officials for me missing the last 5 minutes of the game. If the Directv guide says the game should end at 6, then it should end at 6. Thanks Zebras, you screwed up my life at work and at home!
