It was already a good week for Kentucky football recruiting, but tonight, it just got better.
Sunday evening, the Blaylock twins (Daron and Zack) gave their pledge to Joker Phillips and the Wildcat coaching staff.
I got a chance to catch up with Daron and this is what he had to say…
“He (Coach Phillips) said we made the Kentucky Wildcats better today,” Daron said regarding his commitment.
The twins, native of Georgia, should make an instant impact for the ‘Cats on the defensive side of the ball, where Daron is expected to play outside linebacker, and Zack is planning on patroling center field as a safety.
The Blaylocks chose Kentucky over Duke and Ole Miss. In fact, the brothers took a visit to Ole Miss yesterday.
“We went to Ole Miss yesterday, but we already had planned to commit to Kentucky,” Daron explained. “We just wanted to make sure it was the right decision for us.”
Thus, the two rising seniors will not take any other visits.
“A commitment is a commitment. And we will be loyal to out commitment. We’re Wildcats for the next four years of our lives.”
But why UK? What stood out to these brothers out of other schools in the SEC and ACC?
They just felt at home.
“Last year we took a lot of visits, but when we went to Kentucky, we felt like we just fit in. The coaches were really cool and we thought it was the best place for us.”
Daron said that Coach Nord was pivotal in his decision to commit to Kentucky.
“Coach Nord was our primary recruiter. We built a great relationship with him. When he called, we usually talked about fishing,” he said with laughs. “It’s just something that both of us is interested in.”
Nevertheless, the Blaylocks were signed to come play football, and they are very excited for the opportunity to be Wildcats.
If you’re counting, this is six and seven on the commitments list, and they are the third Blaylock to commit, joining fellow Peach State native, Shawn Blaylock, Jr.
There is no relation, but they have one thing in common: they are Wildcats!
These are definitely players to look at heading into the 2012 season.
Props to Aaron Cordero for being all over these guys the past few weeks.
