Kentucky Suffers Heartbreaking Overtime Loss to No. 21 Texas

Kentucky was in position to upset No. 21 Texas Saturday night, but came up short in a heartbreaking 16-13 loss in overtime.

The Wildcats (2-4, 0-4 SEC) had the ball first and goal inside the 5-yard line in top half of the opening overtime period. Texas stuffed four consecutive runs to prevent Kentucky from scoring. The Longhorns then won with a field goal on their possession.

Here’s a look at Kentucky trying to punch it in on fourth down:

A win would have been huge for a Kentucky program and coaching staff that have now lost nine consecutive SEC games.

Kentucky outgained Texas (5-2, 2-1 SEC) 395 yards to 179 yards. The Cats had 26 first downs compared to just 8 for the Longhorns. Kentucky won every facet of the game, except for special teams…and of course, the scoreboard.

Explosive punt returner Ryan Niblett torched Kentucky twice, and that was really the difference in the game.

On a bright note for Kentucky, Cutter Boley appears to be getting better and better under center. Boley was 31-for-39 for 258 yards in the game. He made one big mistake, which resulted in an interception. Boley also ran the ball 14 times for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Kentucky will try to recover from this heartbreaking loss to prepare for a home battle against rival Tennessee, which will be coming in off a tough loss at Alabama.
