When you are a Kentucky fan, you live in two totally different universes….Football season and Basketball season.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
Basketball season is the time of year when we wonder how far we are going to go, and football season is when we wonder how are we going to do to screw it up.(screw is the nicest way I could say it).
The two programs have me thinking, and it kind of started with the latest Louisville football commit Joe Manley, and my personal life.
I know that sounds like a crazy comparison, and no my personal life has nothing to do with Joe Manley, but bear with me for a minute and I will try to explain.
If you already didn’t know, top instate lineman Joe Manley picked Louisville over Kentucky and Western Kentucky(mainly UK, Lets hope), because he wanted a chance to win a championship.
As most of the BBN knows, most of our basketball recruits want to play basketball at Kentucky because they want a chance to win championships(make millions in the NBA too)..
Kind of ironic, huh?
We have two programs at the same university that sound like they are going in two different directions.
I love Kentucky Football. I had season tickets for 10 years and I went to every home game. Cried, yelled, and cried some more in that 10 years. I hurt and lost sleep when they lost, probably as much as the coaching staff.
Does that mean I am a yes man for the program and can except not being elite? No…
Why don’t we have the same expectations of our football program as our basketball program?
Which leads me to my personal life….
Everyone has always said you will always have a special place in your heart for your first love, and you will never forget it. I can kind of agree with that, but that was over 20 years ago…I am kind of in the now..
I want someone that is going to make me smile, laugh, and look forward to spending time with them….now.. Which brings me to Kentucky Football.
Why can’t we win a championship in football now? I know everyone wants that 8th basketball championship, and don’t get me wrong, I do too… but what about football?
Wouldn’t #1 be so freaking sweet for our football program? Can’t Lexington and the BBN get to the point that they expect to compete for a national championship every year in football as well as basketball?
Other schools have proven in the SEC that it is possible to compete for both…why can’t Kentucky?
My question for the BBN is what would excite you more…having your first love winning #8 or Kentucky football winning it’s first national championship?
My answer is “I want to at least compete for both.”
