Worst season in Kentucky basketball history ends with painful loss to Mississippi State

Kentucky ended the worst season in the history of the program with a disappointing loss to Mississippi State in the second round of the SEC Tournament this afternoon.

After fighting back from a double-digit deficit to actually take a 5-point lead late in the game, the Wildcats (9-16) still managed to lose 74-73.

Dontaie Allen, who scored a game-high 23 points off the UK bench, had one last shot to win it at the buzzer, but his 23-footer clanked off the rim and Mississippi State (15-13) advanced to tomorrow’s quarterfinal round.

Kentucky is now left to pick up the pieces following their first losing season since 1989.

Who stays? Who goes? Can John Calipari turn things around for 2021-22? Will there be fans in Rupp Arena next season?
