Wildcats Headed to NFL Tryout Camps

Larry Warford

The 2013 NFL draft is in the books, it’s time to take a look at where some of our former Wildcats landed. Larry Warford was the only player selected in the draft. The Detroit lions selected him 65th.
Larry had an opportunity to leave for the NFL after his junior season, but decided to come back to Kentucky to improve his game. Larry was the most successful offensive lineman the Wildcats have had in the last 20 years. While Larry weighs in at 332 lbs. and is 6’3” he still has a lot of work to do. Warford must improve his quickness and explosiveness off the ball. While in Detroit Larry will have every opportunity to improve and play significant minutes in the future.

Collins Ukwu

Collins Ukwu signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Collins appeared in 11 of the Wildcats 12 games this past season. Ukwu recorded 41 tackles including six tackles for loss and 4 sacks. The 6’5” 258 lb. defensive end needs to get stronger and bigger to play in the NFL. With the right workout program and weight training that shouldn’t be a problem for Collins. Ukwu has a great attitude and work ethic to have a bright NFL future.

Martavious Neloms

Martavius Neloms will be joining Larry Wardford in Detroit. Neloms had a decent season recording 31 tackles, but only one interception. While being known as a hard hitter, Neloms must improve his speed and reaction to the ball.

Matt Smith

Matt Smith was signed by the Atlanta Falcons. Smith a three year starter at Kentucky, he was the leader of the offensive line that rushed for over 1900 yards and passed for 2100 yards. Smith 6-4 296 pounds could gain some weight and strength to his body. Overall I think Matt will have a good pro career.

La'rod King

Rumors are floating around that La’rod King has signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints. King was having a great season until starting quarterback Max Smith went down with a season ending injury. La’rod still finished the season with 48 catches for 488 yards and 4 touchdowns. If King does end up playing in New Orleans he will need to improve his route running.

Big Blue Nation. let’s get behind these guys and hope they have successful careers in the NFL.

Stay tuned for more updates as the camps get underway.
