Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach D.J. Eliot and Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Neal Brown discussed Saturday’s scrimmage with the media.
Eliot:
- Still working to develop depth and continue to improve.
- Defense plays faster, communicates better, executes more.
- Freshman class very talented, still growing- understanding schemes and fundamentals.
Brown:
- Threw ball a lot during scrimmage to see where we are with quarterbacks, receivers.
- Offense working on improving on third downs, being able to protect, throw and catch.
- Guys need to get away from football a little, not think about it for an evening.
- Wants to see how quarterback is managing tempo, making decisions, accuracy.
- Concentrated on Williams and Horton. Thought Mikel had one of his best days, ran solid.
- Notices significant improvement since spring.
- Borden, Shields had touchdown catches in scrimmage.
- Passing game needs to get better due to splitting qb reps, wide receivers unable to practice.
- Need to get healthy.
- Will concentrate on passing for next 5-7 days.
