USA Today Believes Kentucky Might Be Stuck as a 3-Seed in NCAA Tournament

USA Today thinks Kentucky is a solid 3-seed in their latest bracketology.

The problem the Wildcats currently have is a lack of big time wins.

Here’s what they say about the Cats and their chances to earn a higher seed:

Injuries and that late January skid might mask the fact that the Wildcats are indeed title contenders. But what’s their seeding look like here on the first day of February? For now, they’re a solid No. 3 seed based on a solid overall résumé that includes a win against North Carolina, no losses outside the top-100, and top-10 strength of schedule and RPI. But outside of that UNC result, UK has a lot of good victories but few great victories.

John Calipari’s freshmen-laden team meets Florida this weekend, and then once more in late February. But that’s the highest RPI squad Kentucky will face. While other No. 3 seeds — Florida State in the ACC, West Virginia in the Big 12 and even Maryland in the Big Ten — have good opportunities to rise up, the Wildcats likely won’t get as much opportunity in the SEC. There’s no mistaking how good this team can be in March. But seeding wise, the outlook is a bit different.
