UK Fan is Very Upset that Brad Calipari is Joining the Team

At least one UK fan seems to be very upset that John Calipari is bringing his son into the program as a walk-on.

Darrell Gross of Lexington wrote a strong opinion letter to the Herald-Leader about Brad Calipari joining the team next season.

Here’s an excerpt of Gross’ thoughts:

So it truly blows my mind that UK coach John Calipari has the gall to let his son be a walk-on at UK — especially since the only schools that showed interest in Brad Calipari were Liberty University, a Christian school formed by the Rev. Jerry Falwell, and East Tennessee State, not to be confused with Middle Tennessee State, which upset Michigan State in the first round of this year’ March Madness.

With so many friends in coaching, it would seem that Calipari would have found at least one school willing to give his son a scholarship.

If Brad Calpari plays even one minute as a walk-on freshman, it would be the absolute worst of the worst for his father, and prove that the coach’s name means more than UK — $7.5 million more

I would encourage Gross (and anyone else who has a similar opinion) to be patient and support John Calipari’s decision here.
For one thing, Brad is a walk-on and as we’ve seen in recent years, walk-ons normally serve as bench support.
For another thing, Coach Cal is the head coach and it’s his prerogative to bring his son on board if he chooses to do so.
