Twany Beckham Eligible Saturday

Mississippi State transfer Twany Beckham will finally be available this Saturday in Rupp Arena vs. Chattanooga.

Beckham didn’t play much in his first year in Starkville only averaging 8.4 minutes per game.

Rivals.com looks at Beckham path to Lexington and the possibility of him backing up Marquis Teague.

When he arrived at Lexington, he was not promised anything. Coach John Calipari told him to come in, work hard, and everything would take care of itself. Beckham has now been practicing with his Wildcat teammates for almost a year. He impressed Coach Cal early on with his defensive skills in practice against the other UK guards.

Beckham is a pass-first point guard meaning he’ll get others involved in the action. He isn’t the best shooter but he can handle the ball. He is scrappy and plays hard. Since there are no other true point guards on the squad other than Marquis Teague, Beckham should have an opportunity to play. How many minutes he’ll get is unknown, of course. It will be good to have another option off the bench to give Teague a breather or provide insurance in case of an injury. When he gets into the game, he just needs to play great defense and not turn the ball over. If he can do that for 10 minutes, that will be a huge addition. Also, given Beckham’s age, he might be a solid leader.

If Twany has learned the offense and knows the ins and outs of the DDM I think he couuld be a great backup for Marquis Teague.

Teague is obviously going through freshman growing pains and having someone that has been in a little bit of SEC play could add some much needed depth at the guard position.

How much do you think Twany will help this team going forward? Will he make an impact or will he spend most of his time sitting with the other walkons?
