AAU coach Steve Quattrocchi recalls a time at the Expo Center in Louisville when referee Ted Valentine threatened to kick him out of a game that Valentine wasn’t even officiating.
During the summers, AAU officials are often evaluated to see if they are ready to move up to the next level. Valentine, who is affectionately nicknamed “TV” for his ability to always be noticed during games, was in the gym evaluating referees.
Quattrocchi was getting on the refs pretty good when Valentine threatened to kick him out of the game while sitting in a court side seat.
He threatened to toss me from an AAU game where he was evaluating refs a couple years ago.

“I told him the referees he was evaluating weren’t any good and he needed to help them out,” Quattrocchi recalls. “He told me if I said one more word, he’d toss me.”
Just think, there weren’t even any cameras on that game.
