Tony Barbee Says Cryptic Tweet During Auburn’s Blowout Loss Had Nothing To Do With Auburn

Kentucky assistant Tony Barbee posted an Tweet of a laughing emoji during Auburn’s blowout loss to Clemson.

Of course, Auburn fans and supporters took the Tweet as a shot at their program, where Barbee previously worked as a head coach.

When asked about the Tweet today, Barbee denied that it had anything whatsoever to do with Auburn…or even basketball:

“I wasn’t watching games right then,” Barbee said Wednesday as Kentucky held court for interviews before the Sweet 16. “It had nothing to do with basketball or any university, so why people took it that way I don’t know.”

“Tony was really bombarded by people here,” Smith said. “I think he felt leaving here everybody was against him and it wasn’t fair and that type of thing.

“He may have been using a little ‘get even’ there, which I think he shouldn’t have done. Tony is up for jobs that are going to be open and he doesn’t need anything like that from keeping him from getting a job.”

Here’s what Bruce Pearl said when asked about the Tweet:

“Listen, I am so proud, Clay,” Pearl continued. “I am so proud that Auburn men’s basketball won the SEC regular (season) championship, it was the (No.) 1 seed in the (SEC) Tournament with the group that we had. We had talented players and those kids made sacrifices and they got right and they got ready and at the end of the day they were champions. Eh, I’m smiling too. I’m laughing too. I’m laughing. I’m LMAO, baby. I am and it’s great. That stuff, listen, whatever.”
