The SEC East is Wide Open After LSU Thumps Georgia

The SEC East race is wide open and Kentucky is solidly in the mix after LSU whipped Georgia 36-16 this afternoon.

With Georgia losing and Florida winning, the Wildcats (5-1, 3-1 SEC) are now alone in third place in the East Division.

Most importantly, the top three teams all have one loss. Kentucky is only in third because they have played one less game due to the bye week.

Here’s a look at the East Division:

EAST

(Ranking) Team SEC Record (Overall Record)

(14) Florida Gators: 4-1 (6-1)

(2) Georgia Bulldogs: 4-1 (6-1)

(18) Kentucky Wildcats: 3-1 (5-1)

South Carolina Gamecocks: 2-3 (3-3)

Tennessee Volunteers: 1-2 (3-3)

Missouri Tigers: 0-3 (3-3)

Vanderbilt Commodores: 0-3 (3-4)

Let’s focus on the top three teams and their remaining SEC games:

– Florida: vs. Georgia, vs. Missouri, vs. South Carolina

– Georgia: vs. Florida, at Kentucky, vs. Auburn

– Kentucky: vs. Vanderbilt, at Missouri, vs. Georgia, at Tennessee

There’s still a ton of work to do and none of Kentucky’s remaining games are “easy” wins, but the Wildcats control their own destiny because they own a tiebreaker over Florida. For Kentucky, it’s win and you’re in.
