Dawn Lee Wakefield of the Texas A&M Examiner wrote an article this morning titled Kentucky Wildcats fans talk a bit of trash before Aggie men’s basketball matchup.
Out of curiosity, I read the article to see what Wakefield was talking about.
It turns out, her version of “talking trash” is a childish picture (seriously, one picture) that was posted on a Facebook page called “Kentucky Big Blue Nation”.
Here is an excerpt:
Nothing like a good SEC basketball rivalry to get emotions running high in Aggieland, right? One has only to see the Jan. 8, post on the Facebook page, Kentucky Big Blue Nation to see what some graphic artist designed as their trash talk about the Aggies using the beloved beveled ‘ATM’ logo. You see, basketball is king at Kentucky, in case you’ve been living on a desert island and didn’t know, and the Aggies are who their rabid fans think they’re going to plow over on their way to the top.
This Saturday’s matchup at Reed Arena marks the likely following of what should be the largest crowds to walk through the doors on Jan. 10, 2015. The game begins at noon and will be nationally televised on CBS. The Wildcats are ranked No. 1 nationally, and they are 14-0 and the Aggies are 9-4. For any other school, many other schools, that might present an attitudinal problem of fear, self-defeatist talk, or presumption of a big ‘L’ in the outcome. But not for the Aggies.
The Aggies always have hope. And there are times where hope is merited. Just two years ago, the Aggies’ Elston Turner scored his career-high 40 points, including six 3-pointers, in Rupp Arena, as the Aggies won 83-71, in January, 2013, a game that broke the Wildcats’ consecutive home-game win record held since 2009.
The article concludes with:
There may be a lot of trash talkers in Kentucky who don’t hold the Aggies in high regard; that’s to be expected with their level of school pride. But, the Aggies always have hope. The Aggie spirit can well make the difference in tomorrow’s game at Reed Arena. The team has worked hard to prepare for this second SEC game of the season. They deserve the best the Aggie fans have to offer.
Tomorrow, the yell leaders will be there, the Texas Aggie dance team will be there, and the phenomenal Hullabaloo Band will be there. See you at Reed Arena at high noon. There’s going to be a SEC showdown that you won’t want to miss. As for the Wildcats fans and their graphics, the Aggies can indeed give them something to talk about.
