Tennessee’s Starting Running Back Quits Team Following 3 Losses and Arrest of His Mother During a Home Game

To say that things are bizarre in Knoxville right now would be an understatement.

Following a stunning 24-21 loss at South Carolina, star running back Jalen Hurd decided to quit the team and seek a transfer.

The Volunteers have now lost three consecutive games after earning convincing wins over Florida and Georgia.

Now the story has really taken a strange twist as reports have surfaced that Hurd’s mother was arrested during the September 24 home win over the Gators.

According to KnoxNews.com:

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office stated it received two complaints of Smotherman creating a disturbance during the game at Neyland Stadium. When KCSO officer Cheralyn Wood tried to escort Smotherman out of the stadium, Smotherman got in her face and started yelling at her, the records read.

Smotherman pushed Wood in the chest and became combative on the exit ramp as Wood and another officer escorted her out of the stadium, the records state. She continued to resist and verbally abuse the officers until they forced her to the ground and handcuffed her with her arms behind her back, according to the records.
