SEC Country has spoke with TaxSlayer.com president Rick Catlett and he says Kentucky is #1 on his list.
“Based on the discussion with the other bowl directors, I believe that we will put Kentucky No. 1 and I believe they will be available for us,” Catlett told SEC Country on Sunday morning.
Kentucky will live stream a bowl selection special on ukathletics.com once the decision is announced. It’s the first bowl game for the Wildcats since 2010, and the first in coach Mark Stoops’ tenure. The Wildcats looked destined for a lower-tier bowl in either Shreveport, La., or Birmingham before its 41-38 win over Louisville in the season finale.
Catlett said he’s spoken with athletic director Mitch Barnhart, but the conversations have only been speculatory.
“I’ve talked to Mitch, but there’s no commitment on their part,” Catlett said. “There won’t be until 3:30 p.m. today. So anything we talk about now is speculative based on what other bowl directors have told me.”
Kentucky’s potential opponent would either be Georgia Tech or Miami, Catlett said. He’s still in discussions with the ACC office. Both teams finished 8-4.
It is sounding more and more like you better be making reservations in Jacksonville for New Year’s Eve.
Update:
Team Announcement may be earlier than originally expected. 🙃
Stay tuned.
