The night before UK Football season opener, before Will Thomas Collins made a key block on the Wildcats’ first play from the scrimmage to start a 75 yard touchdown run, and before an entire fan base would come to know him almost exclusively as “Taco Meat,” UK assistant coach Vince Marrow had a question for the walk-on junior.
The question was, “How you feel? Is this a dream to you?” Marrow asked.
“He was like, ‘Coach, this means everything to me.’ And you could see it in his eyes. He was like, ‘I’m just so thankful for this opportunity.’ I told him, ‘You ain’t getting this opportunity just because I’m trying to put some local kid in. You’re the best guy.'”
He loves to get rough and loves the physical ball play. Collins says, “I want to hit people as hard as I can hit ’em and I want to embarrass whoever I’m blocking.”
Just before the season opener, word got out that Marrow called Collins “Taco Meat” and its almost self explanatory.
Collins ate a bunch of taco meat this one time. It was supposed to be his uncle’s dinner, but he got home first and the bucketful of beef “became my snack,” says Collins. “Reality probably puts it around a pound, maybe even a pound and a half, but the legend’s grown all the way up to two pounds.”
