Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim doesn’t think the 2015 Kentucky Wildcats were one of the all-time great teams in college basketball.
Boeheim was asked to comment on the 38-1 Kentucky team and here is what he had to say:
On people who said Kentucky was the best team ever:How about when they all stayed in school for four years? (Bill) Walton, Keith Wilkes and (Henry) Bibby and all those guys. Look at the great Georgetown teams with Patrick Ewing and all those guys. (Michael) Jordan, (Sam) Perkins and Brad Daugherty? There’s a long way between those guys and a freshman at Kentucky. If Jordan and those guys had played Kentucky it wouldn’t have been a game.
On if college basketball is broken:
It’s not broken. You just have so many young players. The best teams are freshman and sophomores. They used to be juniors and seniors and they used to be great players. Now they’re great players but they’re only freshman and sophomores. I think we need to speed the game up. The shot clock will help a little bit. I think widening the arc will help a little bit. We need to speed it up a little bit. We don’t need to speed it up a lot. I think the 30-second clock would help. I think 24 would be better, but I don’t think we’ll get that. I think it will help the game.
