Stoops Brothers Looking Good, Petrino Brothers Headed In Opposite Direction

Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports says the Stoops brothers are trending up while the Petrino brothers are headed in the opposite direction.

Mark Stoops has Kentucky at 2-0 and in position to be contenders in the SEC East. Bob Stoops is off to a 2-0 start at Oklahoma including a tough win on the road at Tennessee.

Meanwhile, Bobby Petrino and Louisville are 0-2 on the season with difficult tests coming up in 4 of the next 5 games. Idaho, under the direction of Paul Petrino, is also sitting at 0-2.

Here’s an excerpt from Forde’s article:

On one end of the sibling coaching spectrum we have the Stoops brothers, Bob (26) and Mark (27), a combined 4-0 and coming off big victories. Bob took Oklahoma into Knoxville and won a thriller, coming back from 17 points down to triumph over Tennessee in overtime. That gave him a chance to resume one of Stoops’ favorite hobbies: talking smack at the SEC.

Asked Monday about SEC Network barker Paul Finebaum calling Stoops “irrelevent,” Stoops said, “I don’t care. He doesn’t deserve that attention from me. The bottom line is ask Tennessee and their 105,000 people if we’re relevant or not. And a few other teams in the last couple years. Doesn’t matter.”

Mark took Kentucky into Columbia, S.C., and beat the Gamecocks 26-22. With Florida and Missouri coming to Lexington in the next two weeks, Kentucky has a chance to be something it’s never really been before: an SEC East contender.

On the other end of the sibling spectrum are the Petrino brothers, Bobby (28) and Paul (29), a combined 0-4 and coming off bad losses. Bobby’s Louisville team was beaten at home by Houston – just his third loss in 60 college games as a double-digit favorite. The noted quarterback guru has tried three of them in two games this season, and may still not know who his best one is heading into a Thursday night home game against Clemson. With the Tigers and trips to North Carolina State and Florida State coming up in the near future, a 1-5 start is certainly possible.

Then there’s Paul, who is expected to lose a lot at Idaho but has won zero admirers along the way. Petrino picked an ill-advised fight with a local sports columnist during fall camp, and since then there have been more embarrassing headlines for the Vandals’ most talented player, receiver Dezmon Epps.
