Sean Woods Speaks Out, Says He Plans to Fight Battery Charge

Former Morehead State head coach Sean Woods spoke publicly today for the first time since being suspended and charged with battery.

In an interview with WKYT, Woods said the marriage between he and MSU is unfortunately over. He added that he intends to fight the battery charges he is facing.

Here is an excerpt of his comments:

“The marriage that Morehead State and I had, that I thought was a real beautiful marriage, has come to an end, unfortunately.”

That’s how Sean Woods described his reaction after deciding to resign as Morehead State men’s basketball coach.

“It’s been a rough day. It’s been a rough almost four weeks. Just being in limbo over this situation. It’s been one of the toughest times in my life.”

Woods was suspended following a game on Nov. 19 at Evansville, where Woods allegedly hit and shoved two Morehead players. Woods has been charged with misdemeanor battery in the case.

Woods said he felt relieved in making the decision to resign.

“I just felt it was in the best deal for Morehead basketball to get on with that,” Woods told WKYT’s Rob Bromley. “I love that program so much that I don’t want that situation lingering on. I think it’s heading in the right direction. I think the kids need to go on and move on. I think Morehead needs to figure out what they want to do next and try to get on with this as quick as possible.”
