Louisville head coach Rick Pitino gave a few comments about the Wake Forest football scandal during his press conference today.
Pitino said it’s wrong what the Wake Forest announcer did, calling it a “terrible, terrible thing.” He also said Louisville AD Tom Jurich is about honor and integrity.
Here’s what Pitino had to say:
“It’s wrong what that announcer did,” Pitino said. “It’s a terrible, terrible thing. Sometimes you don’t know why. Those athletes from Wake Forest were (betrayed) by that radio person.
“It’s not about giving someone their information, it’s about turning on their athletes that work all week to (win). You owe it to those athletes no matter what grudge you have. That’s a terrible thing that Wake Forest announcer did to those athletes.”
Pitino also defended Tom Jurich, though admitted Louisville’s athletic director “may not have put it (statement) out there the right way, and his tone.”
“That being said, I’ve worked with the guy for sixteen years, Tom Jurich has the most integrity,” Pitino said. “Every AD wants to win but (with) Tom it’s the right thing first. He may come across the wrong way in the eyes of people….but Tom Jurich is about honor and integrity. He’s always about doing the right thing.”
