Louisville head coach Rick Pitino knows what it takes to knock off top-ranked Kentucky .
Pitino said on his radio show last night that right now, there are three teams on top of college basketball: Duke, Kentucky and Arizona. The Cardinals’ coach said those three teams “are very special.”
What would it take to beat a team like Kentucky?
Pitino thinks he has the answer. Here’s an excerpt from 247Sports.com:
“We won’t know until we throw the ball up whether we can play with the likes of Kentucky, Duke,” said Pitino. “We’ll know when we play them.”
Louisville travels to Western Kentucky for their first road game Saturday, then hosts Cal-Northridge December 23. Pitino said Louisville will practice Christmas Eve morning and Christmas night to prepare for their matchup against Kentucky. Pitino promised Louisville would ‘take advantage’ of unlimited practice time next week.
“You take a team like Kentucky and you’ve got to try to develop an offensive game-plan where they don’t block every shot in the lane, they get out on the break,” Pitino said. “So you’ve got to develop an offensive game-plan as much as a defensive game-plan and the way to do that is to take a lot of mental time with breaking down film. That’s what it’s going to take to play with a team like that.”
December 27 will be here soon…I can’t wait.
