Report Says UK Fraternities, Sororities Warned About Armed Student ‘Protecting’ Tai Wynyard

According to a report by the Courier-Journal, University of Kentucky fraternities and sororities were recently warned about a student carrying a gun to parties to “protect” UK basketball player Tai Wynyard.

It was revealed earlier today that Wynyard has been suspended from all basketball activities for a violation of team rules, but UK has neither confirmed nor denied that the suspension has anything to do with the gun report.

Here’s more from the C-J:

Nima Mahmoodi, a member of the Chi Psi fraternity and Vice President of Community Outreach for the Kentucky Interfraternity Council, named Wynyard in messages sent to the organization’s members and obtained by Courier Journal on Tuesday.

“Obviously Tai Wynyard was involved and this morning it was announced that he was suspended,” Mahmoodi said in one message.

The Group Me message circulated by sorority members in January stated: “there is a (person) showing up to parties with the basketball player Tai Wynyard. (The person) showed up last night to our rush party and … had a gun … said he was ‘protecting’ Wynyard. … If you go out tonight and see (person) DO NOT APPROACH (person). Share this to EVERY SISTER.”

The message, according to a fraternity member with knowledge of the incident and speaking on the condition of anonymity, was sent “the second or third week of January.”
