Report: Kentucky Basketball Recruit Won’t Take Official Visits Before Decision

The nations NO. 1 guard, five star combo guard Malik Newman, reportedly won’t take official visits before making his college decision.

A jam-packed three weeks for the nation’s No. 1 guard has left little time to focus on his next step. The guard will choose between Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Kansas, LSU and N.C. State but won’t step foot on campus before doing so.

“For one, he really doesn’t have time,” Newman’s father Horatio Webster told The Clarion-Ledger in the exclusive series Beyond The Game. “Now that basketball season is over with, I don’t think he’ll take visits. If he does, fine. If not, that’s fine too.”

Earlier in his recruitment, Newman planned to take all five of his allotted official visits.

During his senior year, the guard unofficially visited Kentucky for Big Blue Madness, Ole Miss for a football game in October 2014 and for a home basketball game vs. Florida in January, Mississippi State for the Auburn football game in October 2014 and LSU for a basketball game vs. Kentucky in February.

Newman said the only part of his recruitment that’s stressful is trying to schedule visits. Now it looks like that won’t happen.

“I kind of look at it the same. I can take my time and just play my ball game right now because it’s kind of in my hands right now,” Newman said in late March. “The only pressure I feel about it is knowing that my April will be busy, so where do I squeeze in time to take all of my officials?”
