According to Ben Roberts of the Herald-Leader, the expectation around the Kentucky men’s basketball program regarding Shaedon Sharpe has changed in recent weeks.
John Calipari and his staff were under the impression that Sharpe would be returning next season but those thoughts have now shifted.
The staff is now operating under the assumption that Sharpe, who is projected as a top 5 pick in the NBA Draft, will not return.

Here is an excerpt from Roberts’ article:
What’s next? Sharpe came to Kentucky in January with the plan to sit out the rest of the season as a practice player only, then make his debut for the Wildcats in the 2022-23 campaign. Following rampant speculation that the former No. 1-ranked recruit might play right away, Calipari finally made it clear that it wouldn’t happen, while also saying that he fully expected Sharpe to be part of next season’s team. There has been no public announcement yet on Sharpe’s future, but Kentucky now expects that he’ll ultimately decide to enter and stay in this year’s NBA Draft, a move that would obviously be a big blow to Calipari’s plans for next season.
