Prior to this school year, one of the best players in the state of Kentucky in the 2014 class transferred out to attend a prep school in Florida: D’Angelo Russell.
Russell, now with Montverde Academy, was in Memphis this weekend to participate in this first annual Penny Hardaway Hoopfest. It is also worth being noted that Montverde’s coach was at St. Patrick’s with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist the past few years. Montverde also has Dakari Johnson, a fellow UK 2014 recruit, and Kasey Hill, a former UK target who is committed to Florida.
After a frustrating loss to Ridgeway on Saturday at the Penny, Russell discussed his recruitment.
The star guard has yet to compile a list, but he did say “Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, Indiana, and Xavier” are recruiting him the hardest at this point.
He also plans to visit UK and Ohio State this summer. In a recent interview with FiveStarBasketball, he called both schools a dream school.
Stay tuned for an in-depth interview with Russell later in the week.
