Prediction: Ole Miss vs. Kentucky

ukmbb010614

Ole Miss (9-4) travels to Lexington to open Southeastern Conference play against #1 Kentucky (13-0). Kentucky opened as a 23 point favorite and right now are currently a 22.5 point favorite over the Rebels.

The first thing I am looking forward to tonight is seeing the tweak Cal made with his guards. I think for the most part the guards have played pretty well this season, but he says the tweak will make them better and I believe him.

Andrew and Aaron Harrison didn’t have their best game against Louisville the last time out, but tonight will be different. Being back home in front of the Rupp Arena crowd for the first time since Dec. 13 will be a big boost for them. Look for both players to be in double figures, and hopefully keep the turnovers down.

Willie Cauley-Stein didn’t have his best game against the Cardinals either, he should bounce back tonight. Trey Lyles has been the most consistent player and Coach Cal says he has gotten so much better during the break.

Trey Lyles has gotten so much better in the last three weeks, he’s not even the same player he was. It’s scary how good he’s gotten.

Kentucky’s defense is going to have to guard the three point line. Ole Miss has shot made 41% from behind the arc the past five games, including hitting 11-21 against Austin Peay Saturday night. UK will also need to keep the Rebels from getting to the free throw line. Ole Miss is nearly 79% from the charity stripe as a team.

If Kentucky can play with the same defensive intensity they have played with all season, they should have no problem winning this game.

Kentucky wins this game easily 79-59. Andrew Harrison wins MVP honors.
