Police are investigating racial remarks made towards the Memphis men’s basketball team on Instagram.
Reports indicate that one comment included a potential death threat.
According to the Memphis Commerical Appeal:
The investigation pertains to an Instagram post advertising the next Memphis home game against Bryant on Saturday. Subsequent responses made to the post featured racist monikers and offensive language. One comment included a potential death threat.
The Memphis athletic department released a statement Thursday afternoon:
“The University of Memphis is actively working with law enforcement officials concerning offensive and threatening comments posted on the University of Memphis Men’s Basketball Instagram account. We will have no additional comments while the case is under investigation.”
