FETTES’ FOUR HITS HIGHLIGHTS FIRST FALL SCRIMMAGE
Greg Fettes Goes 4-for-5 in Kentucky’s First Scrimmage of Fall Practice Season
LEXINGTON, Ky. — A four-hit day from junior catcher Greg Fettes and three hits each from junior Zach Arnold, sophomore Connor Heady, outfielder Ka’ai Tom and freshman first baseman Evan White highlighted the first Kentucky baseball fall intrasquad scrimmage, on a perfect Friday afternoon at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Kentucky played its first intrasquad scrimmage of the fall practice season on Friday, with the Black team posting a 10-3 win over Blue in eight innings, with the two teams collecting 29 hits combined.
A native of Madison Heights, Mich., and the 2013 All-Southeastern Conference Freshman Team catcher, Fettes went 4-for-5 with a double in the third inning.
Blue also got three hits from White – a 6-foot-3 native of Gahanna, Ohio, with two hits going as infield knocks. Freshman infielder Riley Mahan, a product of Cincinnati’s Moeller High School, added a 2-for-5 day at the plate, including a bunt single and a triple into the right-centerfield gap.
The Black team got the three-hit games from Arnold, Heady and Tom, with Heady collecting a double and a steal. Tom three hits included a single off the 30-foot wall monster that guards rightfield, with Arnold charting three RBI with a double to leftfield. Sophomore outfielder Marcus Carson, redshirt freshman catcher/infielder Troy Squires and freshman switch-hitting catcher Marshall Gei each had two hits, with Squires ripping a double down the line and Gei notching a RBI double.
On the mound, UK’s scrimmage was highlighted by two shutout innings each from Zack Brown, Taylor Martin and Robert Zeigler. Zeigler fanned four in two shutout, one-hit frames, with Martin striking out two and Brown striking out one in his two innings. In addition, junior southpaw Dylan Dwyer returned to the mound for the first game-like action since suffering an injury at Georgia in the regular-season 2014 finale.
