Petrino Could Get Huge APR Bonus Payout

bobby petrino wku

According to USA Today Sports, Louisville football Coach Bobby Petrino could get $500,000 annually if the Cards score a 935 or higher Academic Progress Rate (APR). An institution’s APR is based on eligibility/progress toward graduation and retention and is designed to track student-athletes who receive athletics financial aid. The minimum four-year average APR the NCAA requires for teams to be eligible for postseason play is 930.

If Louisville participates in a bowl game, Petrino receives a bonus equal to 1/12th of the sum of his $3 million basic annual pay and the APR bonus if he gets it. Without the APR payment, Petrino would have been set for a bowl bonus of $250,000. With the APR payment, Petrino figures to receive at least $791,667 in bonuses.
