Patrick Patterson is looking for a new contract for the upcoming NBA season and the Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic have reportedly had talks with the former Kentucky big man.
Patterson, according to sourced reports, has had discussions with the Orlando Magic but has not received a formal offer, which Toronto would have three days to match.
Reaching out to Patterson and Greivis Vasquez, another Raptors unrestricted free agent, may be the next summer move for general manager Masai Ujiri.
Making pre-emptive moves on his own players would eliminate the possibility that another team would swoop in with an offer the Raptors couldn’t or wouldn’t match. Conversely, agents for Patterson and Vasquez would seek lucrative offers in the cat-and-mouse summer negotiating game for restricted free agents.

Toronto has already made a qualifying offer to Patterson, which means that if any other team makes an offer to Patterson, the Raptors can match it and keep him.
