In Pat Forde’s ‘Minutes’ column he talks UK/UF, POY candidates, and suggests that teams visiting Rupp should come equipped with white flags.
Here are a few excerpts.
Florida-Kentucky
When: Tuesday.Where: Rupp Arena, Lexington.
Why it matters: The Wildcats are first in the SEC at 9-0, the Gators are second at 7-1 and nobody else is very close. Kentucky is trying to protect a No. 1 ranking and a No. 1 NCAA tournament seed. Florida is gunning for its first SEC title in five years, and a road win in Lexington would turbo-charge its NCAA résumé.
Who wins: Kentucky 70, Florida 65. The Wildcats are playing their best basketball of the season, but they’ve been beating up bad teams. This will be their toughest challenge since December.
Matchup of opposites: Florida is guard-centric while Kentucky is thriving on its length and above-the-rim play.
On Davis for POY…
Anthony Davis (30), Kentucky. He’s undoubtedly the best talent in America, but his numbers are somewhat compromised by the balance inherent in the Wildcats’ lineup. Still, he’s starting to establish himself as a star among stars. In two games last week Davis averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and 7.5 blocks. In his past three games, he has made 21-of-23 shots, which means he’s spending a lot of time flushing the ball through the net on the heads of overmatched opponents. If he keeps improving between now and March, he’ll be illegal.

Be careful Pat, Kentucky fans are leery of any talk of ‘legality’.
